Flipped classroom method

A flipped classroom teaching method is an instructional strategy and a type of blended learning, which aims to increase student engagement and learning by having students complete readings at their home and work on live problem-solving during class time.

Flipped Classroom Teaching Method

It moves activities, including those that may have traditionally been considered homework, into the classroom. In a flipped classroom, students watch online lectures, collaborate in online discussions, or carry out research at home while engaging in concepts in the classroom with the guidance of a mentor.

In the traditional model of flipped classroom teaching method, the teacher is typically the central focus of a lesson and the primary disseminator of information during the class period. The teacher responds to questions while students defer directly to the teacher for guidance and feedback. In a classroom with a traditional style of instruction, individual lessons may be focused on an explanation of content using a lecture style. Student engagement in the traditional model may be limited to activities. in which students work independently or in small groups on an application task designed by the teacher. Glass discussions are typically centered on the teacher, who controls the flow of the conversation.

A teacher's interaction with students in a flipped classroom can be more personalized and less didactic, and students are actively involved in knowledge acquisition and construction as they participate in and evaluate their learning.

According to Arthur C. Binning and David H. Binning, "By Flipped classroom method we mean the flipped by the teacher of a group or class of pupils as they work at their desk or around their tables."

Principles of the Flipped Classroom Teaching Method

(1) Principle of Psychological Basis:- Special importance is given to this principle in the selection of curriculum of flipped classroom teaching, so that the process of education should be child-centred. The curriculum is selected keeping in mind the abilities, aptitudes and aptitudes of the child. In this, two children are kept in mind.

  • (a) Sequence of mental development:- There is a special sequence of mental development of the child. First of all, the power of recognition in the child, the power of its recall, the use of knowledge and the development of aesthetic sense abilities occurs naturally. Therefore, it is necessary to keep in mind the mental sequence in the selection of the syllabus.
  • (b) Development of mental powers:- Special mental powers of children are developed by teaching history. Not all children of one age group have the same mental abilities. Imaginative power, abstract thinking, creative thinking power and generalization abilities develop more quickly in gifted students. Therefore, it is desirable for these students to be special as compared to the general learners. But the children are not taken into account in the selection of the text book of modern history. The teacher should also keep this disparity in the class in mind while teaching. Imagination power, decision power, memory power and creative thinking power can be developed easily by teaching history. Therefore, special importance should be given to these mental abilities in the selection of the curriculum.

(2) Educational principles:- The selection of curriculum for flipped classroom teaching should be based on educational principles. Today's education has not one goal but many goals. All those goals are related to individual and social development. Therefore, all educational principles should be taken care of in the selection of the syllabus. To meet the modern social needs, the selection of the curriculum should be based on the objective centric principle of education. Social and educational values should also be kept in the curriculum of Palli. Because the purpose of teaching history is not only limited to knowledge or information, but the learners can also practice the educational values.

(3) Principle of interest:- In flipped classroom teaching, not only events, wars and facts should be included in the course of history, but imagination and elegance should also be included in them, so that the student is attracted to the study of the subject-matter. And at the pre-secondary level, the subject matter should be presented in stories because children of this age are more interested in listening and remembering stories. In adolescence, children should be taught the lessons of high ideals, self-sacrifice, goal-mindedness from the biographies of great men, which will provide training for many mental disciplines. Therefore, the interests of different age levels should also be taken into account in the design of the curriculum.

(4) Principle of Conformity of Teaching Methods:- Teaching methods should also be kept in mind in the choice of curriculum for flipped classroom teaching because different teaching methods are also used for different age levels for different content. The story-system of primary and pre-secondary levels is considered more appropriate. Therefore, the wars and adventures of the ancient kings should be described in the form of a story. At the secondary level, the learner can be given a sense of 'timing'. Therefore, the curriculum should be formed on the basis of the experience of time. Because generally the life-story method is used. Special importance should be given to the history of the present period or history after independence in the subject matter for the higher secondary level, because reasoning power and decision power are developed in the children, so that they can draw conclusions on the basis of the data. Source teaching method can be used easily. In this way, teaching methods should also be given importance in the presentation of the subject-matter.

(5) Principle of Contemporary and Cultural Conformity:- In the curriculum of the reverse classroom teaching, not only the tales of kings, great men, martyrs and adventures should be given importance, but social and cultural development sequence should also be mentioned. In the curriculum, instead of political aspect, special importance should be given to socio-economic, cultural order. Because the study of political aspects encourages communalism which is a threat to national unity and weakens the roots of democracy. Therefore, special importance should be given to social and cultural aspects in the subject matter of reverse classroom teaching so that competent citizens can be prepared.

2. Systematization of education process:- The curriculum of the reverse class is such an account, from which it is clearly marked at which stage of education, which activities and which subjects will be taught in the schools. Thus the curriculum outlines the school program or organizes the process of education.

3. What and what kind of knowledge:- Flip class curriculum is very useful for teachers. Without this they cannot know what and how much knowledge they have to give to the children. It is only on the basis of the curriculum that they work properly and they know that within a certain period of time they know how much work they have to complete in a certain class within a given period.

4. Use of Time and Power:- Through the curriculum of the reverse class, the teachers know what to teach and in how much time? Similarly, students also have the knowledge that what they have to learn and in how much time they have to learn. In this way both the education and the student complete the work within a given time frame. Therefore, by this time and energy is utilized properly.

5. Acquisition of Knowledge:- Inverted classroom curriculum helps the children to acquire knowledge. It is true that knowledge is one, but man has divided it for his convenience, such as literature, mathematics, science, social subject, etc. Curriculum is designed to cover these different parts of knowledge.

6. Character development:- From the point of view of character development, education emphasizes that human qualities in children; For example, truth, service, sacrifice, benevolence, goodwill etc. should be generated. This work is accomplished through the course itself. The aim of the curriculum is to develop these qualities and make the children behave according to them.

7. Development of character:- Curriculum is also a useful item from the point of view of development of personality of children. It is the task of the curriculum to develop the natural qualities and powers of the child in a proper and appropriate direction. Without the development of natural qualities and powers, proper development of a person is not possible.

8. Preparation of Text Books:- Textbooks are prepared on the basis of reverse class syllabus. Text books contain only the material which is suitable for any level of curriculum. In the absence of syllabus, unnecessary things may also be included in the books. The course protects us from this situation.

9. Ease of evaluation:- It is possible to evaluate the ability of the students of that class only on the basis of the syllabus of a class level. Evaluation would be difficult in the absence of syllabus.
